Scrap Arts Music to give energetic and powerful percussion concert

Five extraordinarily athletic percussionists from "Scrap Arts Music" are ready to show how cast-off scraps of industrial product relate to music.

Together with 25 pieces of unique sculptural instruments and precise choreography, the innovative ensemble will put music and the scrap under one roof when they perform a concert at 8pm on July 16 (Friday) at the Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, the ensemble is led by percussionist, Gregory Kozak. He is also the composer, performer and inventor of the transforming, futuristic instruments used by Scrap Arts Music. Working with the idea of transforming useless junk or scrap into beautiful objects, Kozak has created instruments that can produce many different sounds and can be played in a variety of ways. His mobile instruments also reflect the ways in which the music is produced. Kozak's compositions are a fusion of world music traditions and 21st century sounds. Passion and personalities pulsate wildly during Scrap Arts Music's visually stunning and audibly unforgettable "action percussion."

"Concert by Scrap Arts Music", one of the programmes in "The Rhythm & the Beat" series, is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Tickets at $280, $180 and $100 are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
