Local Pianist Raymond Young to bring an evening of Viennese music
Hong Kong pianist Raymond Young will bring to a local audience a July evening of enchanting Viennese music featuring works by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert and Grunfeld.
"City Hall Theatre Recital Series - Piano Recital by Raymond Young Soiree de Vienne", presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be held on July 3 (Saturday) at 8pm at the Theatre of the Hong Kong City Hall.
The programme includes Mozart's Rondo in D, K.485; Haydn's Sonata in B Minor, Hob XVI/32; Beethoven's Sonata No. 31 in A-flat, Op. 110; Schubert's 3 Klavierstucke, D. 946, Nos. 1 & 2; Schubert's Der Lindenbaum, Standchen, Lob der Tranen and Die Forelle (Liszt's transcriptions); Grunfeld's Soiree de Vienne, Op. 56.
Hailed by the "Zhongshan Daily News" as a pianist with "imagination and romantic poetry", and "Express News" as having "interpretative insight, deep communicative power and exquisite tone", Raymond Young was the winner of the Gold Medal in the Two-piano Section and the Silver Medal in the Duet Section at the International Piano Competition in Rome, Italy, 1994, and was honoured with the "Forderungspreis" at the Braunschweig International Music Festival in Germany, 1995.
Young is the first pianist from Hong Kong to be awarded the highest scholarship by the Austrian Government. Through his achievements and numerous recommendations, he was also granted Austrian citizenship. Under the tutelage of Paul Badura-Skoda, Joseph Banowetz, Walter Fleischmann, David Lutz and Norman Shetler, Young is also a Fellow of the Trinity College, and an Associate of the Royal College of Music, in London. His many concerts in Europe and Asia over the years have been well received.
Young gives solo recitals and chamber concerts, accompanies singers and instrumentalists, appears in radio broadcasts and conducts masterclasses and lectures. He also adjudicates for various piano competitions and the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and is currently on the piano faculties of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong Baptist University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong.
Tickets priced at $120 and $80 are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount is offered to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
