Hong Kong pop music reviewed in " Golden Days" concert

The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will perform "The Golden Days Concert" next month and showcase a number of songs to review 80 years of local pop music history.

The shows, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held on June 6 (Sunday) at 8pm at the Auditorium of the Yuen Long Theatre; June 12 (Saturday) at 8pm at the Theatre of the Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre. Also joining the orchestra will be conductors Kam Shui-wing and Wai Sing-fat.

The concert has nine main themes including "Newly Arranged Ancient Tune", "Guangdong Music", "Classic Oldies from 1930s to 1950s", "Huangmei Tunes", "Charms of Teresa Tang", "Campus Folk Song", "Popular Film and TV Songs", "Pop Music King and Queen" and "Contemporary Love Stories".

Established in 1979, the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra aims to promote Chinese music and its rich heritage. The orchestra has given many public performances at the invitation of the LCSD, the Music Office, the Hong Kong Arts Festival Society, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and also many local private organisations. It has toured extensively in Singapore, the United States, Australia and a number of cities in Mainland China with great success.

Tickets priced at $120, $90 and $60 for Yuen Long Town Hall; $90 and $60 for Ngau Chi Wan Civic Centre are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount is offered to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
