Get your arts carnival update and plan your summer fun
Summer is promising to be a season of fun! The International Arts Carnival for both adults and children, has issued a festival update showcasing the coming attractions. So get a programme update from the performing arts venues of Leisure and Cultural Services Department and plan you summer activities.
The International Arts Carnival, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be held from July 14 to August 29. It will feature 400 performances, workshops, exhibitions, plus the school and outreach tour.
The festival highlights include Sadari Theatre Company from South Korea, which is bringing a "Journey of Hands", a creative performance using hands and props. It will run from July 29 to 30 at the Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre; and from July 31 to August 1 at the Sha Tin Town Hall.
Adapted from the famous Chinese history novel, "Romance of Three Kingdoms", "San Guo Zhi" is a puppet drama jointly produced by two of the most elite puppet groups in Japan and China, namely Kageboushi Theatre Company and Chengdu Puppet Arts Theatre Company. Los Angeles Times was impressed with the performance: "The Sino-Japanese endeavor displayed the virtuosity that is possible when blending traditions. "Hong Kong audiences will have a chance to see the collaboration from August 20 to 22 at the Sha Tin Town Hall.
The Stringraphy Ensemble from Japan brings an extraordinary and delightful music experience with the resourceful use of simple strings and cups. Pencil in your diary this show that will be performed from July 30 to August 1 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
Kids will love "Twinkle Twinkle Little Fish" presented by the Windmill Performing Arts Company from Australia. The programme combines puppetry, music and theatrical magic to present a joyful celebration of the nature. The performance will run from August 5 to 8 at the Hong Kong City Hall.
Local performances are equally attractive. The Hong Kong Ballet Group will present the classical ballet, "Swan Lake", celebrating its 40th anniversary. The show will be performed from August 20 to 22 at the Kwai Tsing Theatre.
Jumbo Kids Theatre will present an interactive theatre based on the story of "The Wizard of Oz", for parents and their kids. It will be performed from July 24 to 25 at the Tai Po Civic Centre; July 29 to August 3 at the Hong Kong City Hall; and August 6 to 8 at the Tuen Mun Town Hall.
The International Arts Carnival also has tailor-made programmes for youth, such as theatre productions by the Chung Ying Theatre, Shu Ning Presentation Unit, Prospect Theatre and youth music performance by BREAKTHROUGH Ltd.
