160,000 books sold in the 2-day Donated Book Sale

The Sale of Donated Books, which was held during this weekend (February 21 and 22), attracted a total of about 21,000 people and 160,000 books sold.

Both the number of participants and books sold have increased as compared with those of last year. About 20,000 people participated and 140,000 books sold last year.

The Book Donation and Sale Campaign is jointly organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Home Affairs Department, the Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hongkong Post, the Community Chest of Hong Kong and the Agency for Volunteer Service with an aim to promote reading, book sharing and help the needy.

Over 210,000 books were collected this year. Unsold books would be donated to various charitable and community service organizations including Correctional Services Department or reserved for next year's campaign.

Ends/Sunday, February 22, 2004
