Results of two public art competitions announced
The winners of two public art competitions organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) have been announced.
They were selected from 77 and 191 entries for the two competitions respectively. The two competitions are the "Public Art Scheme 2003/04" and "New Face of Heritage - Installation of Public Artworks at Yat Tung Estate, Tung Chung, Stage II".
Aiming to beautify public space with works of art, the "Public Art Scheme 2003/04" invited site-specific public artwork proposals for three LCSD venues, namely the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Ma On Shan Public Library and Tai Po Public Library.
Meanwhile, the "New Face of Heritage", a partnership project of LCSD and the Housing Department, looked for 10 3-D artworks to further extend the public art walk in the newly completed parts of the Yat Tung Estate, Tung Chung (Hong Kong's first art walk in a public housing estate opened in 2001).
Entries were judged by the following criteria: compliance with the competition requirements, conformity with the environment, creativity, imagination and artistic merit, technical competence and safety, cost of implementation, etc.
