Kagoshima handball players arrive for sports exchange
*****************************************************

The Kagoshima Handball Team arrived in Hong Kong this afternoon (January 31) at the invitation of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for a five-day visit under the Hong Kong - Kagoshima Sports Exchange Programme.

The team, made up of 12 high school boys aged 15 to 19, will play two friendly matches with the Hong Kong Youth Handball Team and the champion of Hong Kong's Inter-school Handball Competition tomorrow and Sunday (February 1 and 2) respectively.

The exchange programme provides opportunities for the young athletes to compete, and also promotes cultural understanding. It has been held annually between Hong Kong and Kagoshima Prefecture since 1979, with the two places alternating as hosts.

Various sports activities, such as hockey, basketball, water polo, kendo, badminton, table tennis, tennis and judo have been organised over the years.

Handball has been chosen as this year's sport because of its popularity among Japanese teenagers and HK students' growing interest in it.

The visiting team's match with the Hong Kong Youth Handball Team will be held at Western Park Sports Centre tomorrow at 5pm.

The second match, with Ying Wa College, the champion of the Inter-school Handball Competition, will be held at Kowloon Park Sports Centre at 5pm on Monday.

Spectators are welcome. Admission is free for both matches.
