Lin and Lee present best of Chinese opera and martial arts

The Chinese opera virtuosi Lin Weilin, from the Zhejiang Kunqu Opera Troupe, and Lee Lung, from the Lung Fei Cantonese Opera Troupe of Hong Kong, will perform excerpts from Kunqu and Cantonese opera masterpieces March 25 to 28 (Thursday to Sunday) at the Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre.

Lin will also conduct a series of martial arts workshops at the Exhibition Gallery, Kwai Tsing Theatre, from February 21 to 26.

Lin Weilin a National Class One Performer who is leader of the Zhejiang Kunqu Opera Troupe, won the 3rd Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Theatre. His forte as a "wusheng" (a performer of military male roles) is fighting with weapons and close combat. His footwork has been acclaimed the best in Jiangnan.

Lee Lung is vice chairman of the Chinese Artists' Association of Hong Kong (Pak Wo). He was a child prodigy who became a disciple of Chan Fei-nung, a famous Cantonese opera artist, at the age of nine. Lee achieved lead actor status in the late 1970s, performing "wenwusheng" (male military and civilian) roles.

Curtain time for Lin and Lee's performances is 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at $300, $220 and $100.

"Workshop: Martial Art Routines in Chinese Opera", hosted by Lin Weilin in Putonghua, will devote two sessions each to different topics. Please refer to programme leaflets for details. Each lesson (two sessions) costs $200.

Tickets for both the performances and the workshops can be purchased at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
