Yunnan Minority Nationality Instrumental Concert scheduled for Feb 15
The "Yunnan Minority Nationality Instrumental Concert", scheduled for February 15, features performers from a host of ethnic backgrounds, including Han, Bai, Yi, Dai, Nu and Naxi, making traditional music on traditional instruments.
The concert is part of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "Chinese Ethnic Music and Dance Series".
For 50 years, members of the Yunnan Minority National Instrumental Performing Group, all graduates of top art institutes, have immersed themselves in the musical culture of various regions, mastering a host of national instruments and compositional styles. Tours have taken them to nearly 20 countries in Asia, Europe and America.
Their Hong Kong concert will showcase the seductively unfamiliar sounds of instruments such as the hani obi, the dai double-reed hulusi, the lisu qiben, the yi leaf and sixian and the bai souna.
This is a splendid opportunity to appreciate the rich artistry of the minorities of Yunnan. Their music gives voice to the hardiness of those who dwell in the hilly uplands and the gentleness of those whose home is in the river valleys.
The concert takes place at 8pm on February 15 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre.
Tickets priced at $160, 120 and $80 are available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients, while Friends of LCSD performing venues receive a 10% discount. Please see the programme leaflets for group and series booking discounts.
