Big crowds welcome the New Year at Sha Tin Countdown Carnival
*********************************************************

Tens of thousands of people took part in the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin Park and Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and Podium last night (December 31).

The climax of the carnival was the countdown to usher in the New Year, with the Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho Chi-ping, presiding. A colourful pyrotechnic show added to the festive atmosphere.

Organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the carnival featured a wide variety of entertainment. Attractions included high-energy cross-cultural percussion by "Batacuda" of Australia, the band Yip Sai-wing and his friends, the two-girl group "at 17", talented young artist Chet Lam and rock group DSC.

Other acts included exotic African Drums and Hip Hop, Jazz, Break-dance and Brazilian Dance.

There were also enchanting Ballroom and Latin Dancing and music from the popular children tales "Snow White" and "Cinderella", a Children's Fun Corner and roving entertainment. All in all, an unforgettable night for carnival-goers.
