Yan Jiemin replaces Li Mei as erhu soloist in "Dragon Heart" concert
*********************************************************

Erhu soloist Yan Jiemin will participate in the China Film Philharmonic Orchestra's "Dragon Heart" concert on December 30 (Tuesday) at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall, replacing Li Mei, who was forced to cancel her appearance because of a hand injury.

Yan Jiemin is an associate professor and supervisor of master's degree candidates at the Central Conservatory of Music. She is the first to hold a double degree in music in China - a bachelor's degree in both Chinese instrumental performance and composition. She is also a member of the Chinese Musicians' Association, the managing director of its Erhu Society, and vice president of the Committee of Professional Huqin Artists under the Chinese Folk Orchestra Music Society.

She placed first in the National Junior Folk Instrumental Solo Competition in 1982 and won the top prize at the 1994 International Competition for Chinese Instrumental Concertos in Taipei. She was the recipient of the 8th National Award for Young Teachers in Tertiary Institutions presented by the Henry Fok Education Foundation in 2002. Apart from teaching, Yan performs often with composers and orchestras. She has won acclaim for her solo recitals in Asia, Europe and Australia.

"Dragon Heart" is part of the China Film Philharmonic's "The Sound of Movies" series, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Other concerts in the series are "Broadway Charms", "Oscar Hits" and "Cinema Classics" which will take place from December 27, 28 and 29 at Tuen Mun Town Hall Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium and Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall respectively.

Conductors Bian Zushan and Li Ling, violin soloists Yu Lina, Andrew Ling and Felix Tham and renowned local pianist Nancy Loo are the featured performers.
