Attendance at Cantonese Opera Day tops 48,000

The Cantonese Opera Day activities staged by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) yesterday (November 30) recorded attendance of over 48,000.

At the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, members of the public enjoyed a colourful parade, Cantonese opera performances, a sing-along session and an exhibition. They also joined in the fun, participated in badge making, an autograph session, a stage make-up and dress-up demonstration, a name-guessing game and a mask puzzle game.

In support of the Cantonese Opera Day, other Cantonese opera or operatic singing programmes were held in various venues, including Ko Shan Theatre, Sha Tin Town Hall, Kwai Tsing Theatre, Hong Kong Film Archive and Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

In organising Cantonese Opera Day with its rich array of performances and activities, the LCSD aims to broaden the audience for this traditional art form.

Ends/Monday, December 1, 2003
