Cantonese Opera Day to take place on November 30

A Cantonese Opera Day will be held on November 30 (Sunday) from 12.30pm to 6pm at the Piazza and Foyer of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC).

An array of free performances and activities will be held on the day to mark this colourful event.

Cantonese Opera Day will start with an opening parade and ceremony at the piazza and foyer. Four Gig Heads, the dance team from Bishop Hall Jubilee School, "Floating Colours" parade and 18 performing groups will participate in a magnificent display of colour and sound. Afterwards, various groups will perform excerpts from Cantonese operas simultaneously in the piazzas and foyer of HKCC to entertain visitors with a feast of Cantonese operatic art.

Interactive activities including an autograph session with renowned actors, Cantonese opera stage make-up plus dressing up and various game stalls will be held at HKCC Piazza Area B. Participants who collect four stamps by visiting the three performing areas and one game stall can collect a souvenir at HKCC Level 4 Foyer (while stocks last). At the same area, visitors will be treated to performances of traditional puppets acting out excerpts from Cantonese opera.

An exhibition will also be held at the HKCC Level 4 Foyer.

Admission to the above activities is free and the public is welcome to join in the fun.

On the same day, various programmes in support of Cantonese Opera Day will be presented at different venues, including Cantonese opera performances, Cantonese operatic concerts, exhibitions and screening of Cantonese opera films. Details of the activities are in the programme leaflets.
