Canadian puppet show "The Star Keeper" coming to HK
****************************************************

Canada's renowned Theatre de l'Oeil is bringing its enchanting puppet show, "The Star Keeper" to Hong Kong in December.

The show, part the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's Cheers! Series, will run from December 23 to 26 (Tuesday to Friday) at 8pm and December 25 to 26 (Thursday to Friday) at 3pm at the Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre Theatre.

With no dialogue, the show combines visual poetry, music and fantasy by mixing marionettes, rod and shadow puppets.

The story begins when Pierrot, trying to light up the evening sky, accidentally lets a star fall. Luckily, the friendly worm, Pretzel, happens to be passing by and puts the star into his basket - and so begins his perilous journey. To return the star to the sky, Pretzel must climb a spider's thread, cross the dormitory of dreams, dive to the ocean depths in pursuit of a pearl-fish, and resist the bewitching charms of the bubble tamer. Audiences will have to find out for themselves whether Pretzel can fulfil his mission.

Since its premiere at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in 1997, "The Star Keeper" has been presented over 400 times at festivals and venues in Canada and abroad. It has also received three awards from l'Academie Quebecoise du Theatre, including the Best Production for Young Audiences Award, Best Set Design Award and Special Contribution Award in 1999; and Chalmers Canadian Play Award: Theatre for Young Audiences in 2001.

Theatre de l'Oeil has created and performed 21 original puppet shows since 1973. Every production has provided an opportunity to develop new puppet-making and operating techniques, as well as playwriting and set design specifically for puppets. Each play is intended to stimulate young peoples' senses as well as to entertain them.
