Hong Kong to hear great voices of Galina Gorchakova and Sergei Leiferkus

The great soprano, Galina Gorchakova, and baritone, Sergei Leiferkus, will perform in Hong Kong on Wednesday (November 19).

The programme, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, includes solo and duet arias from operas such as "Prince Igor", "Il Trovatore", "Aida", "Eugene Onegin" and "Macbeth". It also features works by Tchaikovsky, Kachmaninov and Gounod.

The concert will be held at 8pm at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

As an outstanding interpreter of Italian and Russian repertoire, Galina Gorchakova pursues a busy recital career in Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia, following her highly acclaimed recital debut in the West at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1994. She has also participated in many international music festivals and collaborated with world-renowned conductors. Gorchakova has played leading roles in operas such as "Eugene Onegin", "Madama Butterfly", "Aida" and "Tosca". She has been equally successful in her numerous recordings including Kirov productions of Borodin's "Prince Igor", Tchaikovsky's "Iolanta" and Verdi's "La forza del Destino".

Sergei Leiferkus has appeared with major opera companies and symphony orchestras in the West since the early 1980s, when he made his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Kurt Masur. Since then he has appeared frequently at the world's famous opera houses and collaborated with world-renowned conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Valery Gergiev and Riccardo Muti.. Leiferkus has played leading roles in many operas, such as "Nabucco", "Aida" and "Prince Igor". His numerous albums have enjoyed remarkable success over the years including the Complete Songs of Mussorgsky, the first volume of which was nominated for a Grammy award; the second volume won a 1997 Cannes Classical award and three of the CDs were awarded a Diapason d'Or in the same year.

Tickets priced at $400, $300, $200 and $120, are available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
