Mummenschanz NEXT puts masks and mime on stage November 7-9

Mummenschanz - Swiss Mime Mask Theatre performs "Mummenschanz NEXT" at the Auditorium of Kwai Tsing Theatre on November 7 and 8 (Friday and Saturday) at 7.30pm and on November 9 (Sunday) at 3pm.

This delightful performance is described by the New York Times as appropriate for children who think they are adults and for adults who are children at heart.

"Mummenschanz NEXT" tells stories of everyday life with fantastic shapes, dream-like creatures, human characters with hilarious masks and constantly surprising metamorphoses.

Mummenschanz is a quartet of performers whose name was the term for medieval Swiss soldiers who wore masks to hide their reactions. "We're a masked theatre and body sculpture of sorts," says founding member Floriana Frassetto.

Founded in 1972, Mummenschanz uses everyday materials to devise the expressive shapes and fantastical creations that have become its signature. With a consistent sense of fun and imagination, the group transcends the barriers of language and nationality to achieve an art form that remains universal and unique.

Originally a trio, Mummenschanz has now expanded to four members. "Mummenschanz NEXT" is its first show for four performers.

The performances are presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Tickets for "Mummenschanz NEXT" priced at $160, $130 and $100 are available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-priced tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. For purchases of full-price tickets, the following discounts apply: 4-9 tickets, 10%; 10-19 tickets, 15%; 20 tickets or more, 20%. A 10% discount is offered to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
