Repin and Berezovsky to give duo recital

****************************************

A not-to-be-missed concert featuring virtuoso violinist Vadim Repin and the great pianist Boris Berezovsky will be held at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre on September 9.

Hailed by the late master violinist Yehudi Menuhin as "simply the best, the most perfect violinist" and proclaimed by the Berlin Tagesspiegel as "the greatest living violinist" in 2001, Repin started his international music career at the age of 17. It was at that tender age that he won the most prestigious and demanding violin competition in the world, the Reine Elisabeth Concours.

Repin has performed with the world's greatest orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. His many recordings have brought him international acclaim and numerous prizes. His Prokofiev Violin Sonatas 1 & 2 and Five Melodies won the Diapason d'Or and his Mozart Concerti with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra conducted by Menuhin won the 1999 Echo Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year award. Repin performs on the magnificent Stradivarius "Ruby" 1708 on loan from the Stradivarius Society of Chicago.

Boris Berezovsky has established a remarkable reputation, both as the most powerful of virtuoso pianists and as a musician of unique insight and sensitivity. Grammophone magazine wrote about him: "Here, surely, we have the truest successor to the great Russian pianists."

Berezovsky won the Gold Medal at the 1990 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and he has appeared as concerto soloist with many international orchestras including the Philharmonia, New York Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony. He has a noted partnership with Repin and has also worked with other distinguished musicians such as Dmitry Sitkovetsky and Michael Collins. His recording of the Rachmaninov Sonata was awarded the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik and his Ravel disc was specially recommended by Le Monde de la Musique, Diapason, BBC Music Magazine and the Independent on Sunday.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as part of its Encore Series, "Violin and Piano Duo by Vadim Repin and Boris Berezovsky" will be staged at 8pm on September 9 (Tuesday), at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
