Applications open to operate stalls at Victoria Park Arts Corner

Starting tomorrow (August 11), individuals and subvented non-governmental organisations (NGOs) may submit applications to operate another round of stalls at the Victoria Park Arts Corner, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) said.

"The Arts Corner at Victoria Park was originally planned for a period of six months starting in April this year," an LCSD spokesman said. "It has been so well received by both stall operators and park-goers that the department has decided to grant it an immediate extension."

"The new round of the Arts Corner will be staged at the South Pavilion and South Pavilion Plaza in Victoria Park. It will be open to the public on Sundays and public holidays from 10am to 6pm from October 1 this year until June 27, 2004."

LCSD also operates an Arts Corner at Hong Kong Park and Arts Fun Fairs at Kowloon Park and Lai Chi Kok Park (Stage III).

The Victoria Park Arts Corner will have 24 stalls for selling recreational, arts and culture-related products, as well as services such as painting, photography, calligraphy and sketching.

Applications will be judged by the Arts Corner Vetting Panel of the LCSD so as to ensure the quality and variety of the products and services to be provided. Successful applicants must submit proof of professional knowledge or take an on-the-spot trade test.

"If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the quota after vetting, stalls will be allocated by drawing lots," the spokesman said.

Each successful applicant is required to pay a $100 registration fee and place a $1,000 deposit. The deposit will be forfeited if the stall is open less than 70% of the time.

Application forms may be obtained at the Victoria Park Management Office, Causeway Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong; or the Eastern District Leisure Services Office, 3/F, Quarry Bay Municipal Services Building, 38 Quarry Bay Street, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong.

Completed forms together with any copies of proof of professional knowledge, samples of past work or products must be submitted to Victoria Park Management Office, Causeway Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong by 5pm, August 22 at the latest.
