Lang Lang to give rescheduled piano recital

*******************************************

Celebrated in music capitals throughout the world, Chinese pianist Lang Lang has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences.

He will give a piano recital at 8pm on August 28 (Thursday) at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The recital was rescheduled from its original date in April due to the unavailability of the artist at that time. Tickets priced at $420, $320, $220 and $120 are going fast and only a limited number are still available at URBTIX outlets.

The programme will feature Schumann's "Variations on the name 'Abegg' for Piano in F", Haydn's "Piano Sonata in E", Rachmaninov's "Piano Sonata No 2 in B-flat Minor", Tan Dun's "Eight Memories in Watercolour", Chopin's "Nocturne No. 2 in D-flat" and Mozart/Liszt's "Reminiscences of 'Don Juan' (Don Giovanni)".

Born in Shenyang, Liaoning province, Lang Lang has established himself, at just 20, as one of the most exciting pianists of our time. He has already performed with the world's most distinguished orchestras from New York to London and given recitals from Paris to Tokyo. His career highlights include a live-recorded Proms debut at London's Royal Albert Hall and a sold-out Carnegie Hall debut. His Philadelphia Orchestra performance at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing drew 8,000 people. Lang Lang has won numerous awards, including first prize at the Second Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians' Competition and the first Leonard Bernstein Award for distinguished musical talent. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he has had two bestsellers on the Billboard classical charts and has been featured on CNN and in The Wall Street Journal.

"Piano Recital by Lang Lang", part of the "Encore Series", is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount is also available for Friends of LCSD performing venues. Box seats and lounge packages are available for the performances. For details, call 2268 7230.
