1.2 million join in Leisure and Cultural Services Open Days

A record high of over 1.2 million people visited sports facilities, swimming pools and museums during the five Open Days organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in July.

The facilities were free of charge during the Open Days.

A spokesman for the department said he was very glad to see that the facilities were fully utilised, with public participation more than double the number expected.

"During the five Open Days, over 800,000 people enjoyed swimming and some 260,000 participants used our indoor sports facilities. In addition, nearly 140,000 people visited our museums," he said.

The spokesman praised the participants for their co-operation and patience while waiting for the free use of the facilities. He said their behaviour meant everyone enjoyed the Open Days.

"We hope that the Open Days motivate the public to exercise regularly and that they continue their support of our leisure and cultural services," he said, adding that people should observe the necessary safety measures, such as to warm up properly before exercising and to ensure children under 12 are accompanied by adults when swimming.

The five Open Days were organised in support of the Government's Relaunch Hong Kong Campaign.
