Summer Fun Carnival held at Sha Tin Town Hall today

Families enjoyed a delightful afternoon today (July 20) at the Summer Fun Carnival at Sha Tin Town Hall Podium and Plaza.

Children were captivated by the colourful and attractive puppets made for the musical "Ah Dull and Little Dragon", learning the touching story of why nearly all children in China once wore a bellyband with a beautiful embroidered dragon.

Another puppet show based on a folk tale "Giant Winter Melon" also attracted the crowds. They were also allowed to go on the stage to share the fun.

The fascinating world of Chinese myths were also transformed into a puppet performance, amazing the audience with the intricate skills of glove puppetry, string puppetry and shadow puppetry.

Members of the public not only enjoyed these shows, but also had fun in the puppet-making and puppeteering workshops.

Creativity was also demonstrated in the craft stalls! People made lovely and simple puppets out of paper cups, paper plates and cloth and were pleased with their creations.

Children went after the lovely characters, taking pictures with them.

The Summer Fun Carnival is part of the summer festival "International Arts Carnival", which runs until August 24. The festival will feature a record 533 events. The programme lineup includes ballet, music, drama, puppetry, multi-media performances, physical theatre and films.

Apart from performances, the festival will also present workshops, a school-touring programme, exhibitions, cultural tours, a touring puppet show, summer fun carnivals, and joint programmes with libraries and museums.
