Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Larmore to sing in Hong Kong

***************************************************

Hong Kong opera lovers will soon have the opportunity to hear reknowned mezzo-soprano Jennifer Larmore.

Larmore will sing the great works of Rossini, Mozart, Bizet and Herbert -- including Carmen, La Cenerentola, Semiramide and The Marriage of Figaro, in a presentation by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Larmore's operatic debut in 1986 as Sesto in Mozart's La clemenza di Tito in France marked the start of a brilliant international career in which operas of Rossini, Bellini, Mozart and Handel have figured prominently.

She appeared in her signature role, Rosina from Il barbiere di Siviglia, to extraordinary acclaim in Europe. It was this role that she chose for her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1995. Her recent engagements include a debut in the title roles of Carmen with Placido Domingo as Don Jose and La Cenerentola for the Los Angeles Opera.

Her European highlights include Italiana in Algeri and Carmen at the Vienna Staatsoper and La Damnation de Faust with Seiji Ozawa in Paris.

Pianist Antoine Palloc will perform with Larmore in Hong Kong. Palloc's most recent engagements have taken him to the opera houses of Berlin and San Francisco, as well as the Grand Theatre de Quebec, Carnegie Hall, Theatre des Champs Elysees, Festival d'Aix en Provence, Edinburgh Festival, Printemps des Arts de Monte Carlo, Kennedy Center and the Forbidden City in Beijing.

Vocal Recital by Jennifer Larmore (Mezzo-soprano) of the Encore Series will be staged at 8pm on June 24 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
