A concert to soothe troubled souls

*****************************

The Hong Kong Oratorio Society will perform a special concert next month to bring comfort to those who are going through difficult times.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the concert, entitled Let There Be Peace on Earth, will take place at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall and the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall at 8pm on June 1 (Sunday) and June 7 (Saturday) respectively.

Conductor Chan Wing-wah will lead the singers, including soloists Penelope Chan, Andis Au Yeung, May Chan, Dorothy Hung, Tam Yu Leung, Simon Chan and Enoch Young. The Hong Kong Strings, Wong Kin Yu and Peter Yue will accompany the performance. Nancy Loo will speak about the repertoire to enhance the audience's appreciation.

The Hong Kong Oratorio Society will present Western classical music, including masterpieces of cantata and oratorios of the baroque, classical and romantic periods, and a selection from contemporary composers. Highlights will be Bach's Cantata 147, Handel's Messiah, Haydn's Creation and Mendelssohn's Elijah, all of which offer inspiration and hope. The concert will end with four short pieces of popular choral music about love and peace, including the recent composition, The Lord is my Shepherd, by Professor Chan Wing Wah.

Tickets priced at $120, $90 and $60 for Hong Kong City Hall's performance and $100, $80 and $60 for Tsuen Wan Town Hall's performance are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients.
