International Arts Carnival design contest deadline extended to May 15

The International Arts Carnival's graphic design competition for primary and secondary school students has extended its entry deadline to May 15 from April 30, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has announced.

The competition aims to stimulate students' creativity and arouse interest in design.

Scheduled for July 18 to August 24, the arts carnival will present a diverse lineup of family-oriented entertainment from all over the world. Music, dance, drama, puppetry, mime, magic, acrobatics, clowning and film will share the spotlight, while participatory activities such as outdoor fun days, outreach activities, workshops, exhibitions and guided tours are also planned.

The design competition is divided into primary school and secondary school sections. Entries are welcome on an individual or team basis and each participant may submit more than one work. The designs should fully illustrate the aims and content of the carnival and encourage children, young people and their elders to enjoy the events together.

Entries should measure 59cm by 42cm for the primary school section, and 76cm by 51cm for the secondary school section.

The adjudication panel will consist of experienced art teachers, design professionals and representatives of the International Arts Carnival.

Each award winner will receive a trophy. The winner of each section will receive a book voucher worth $1,500, while the first and second runners-up will get book vouchers worth $1,200 and $800 respectively. The overall winner will receive an additional book voucher of $500. A further five outstanding entries in each section will be honoured with book vouchers of $500.

All entries should be delivered during office hours to the Festivals Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at 5/F, Administration Building, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, 10 Salisbury Road, Kowloon before May 15

Entry forms are available at the LCSD's major performing venues or can be downloaded from the arts carnival website at
