Pet lovers carnival at Lai Chi Kok
Pet lovers are welcome to join in the "Carnival for Pets - Lunar New Year Dogs Fun Day" to be held this Saturday and Sunday (February 22 and 23) at the Hard-Surfaced Soccer Pitch at Lai Chi Kok Park Stage I.
This is the second time for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to jointly organise a carnival of this nature at a leisure venue.
An LCSD spokesman said, "The last 'Carnival for Pets - Dogs Fun Day' held in December last year, was well received with some 17,000 participants."
"The aim of the event is to promote kindness to animals and proper attitude on pet keeping among members of the public."
"Pet lovers, who have missed the carnival last time, should come this time to share the fun with their pets at the fair," the spokesman added.
A wide range of activities and programmes for pet owners will be provided at the two-day carnival.
They include informative booths on services for small animals; The SPCA exhibition panels to introduce its services such as adoption of animals, pet neutering, rescue, education and animal welfare.
There will also be game areas for families and their pets to exercise together.
Special highlights on the first day of the fair will include police dog demonstration and marching band performance.
Talks offering expert advice on pet grooming and dog obedience will be held on the second day of the event.
"This will let pet lovers learn more about pet keeping," the spokesman said.
However, he reminds the participants to ensure that their dogs must be at least five months old and in good health. No admission will be allowed for puppies under that age or bitches in season.
Also, as required by law, all dogs must have been vaccinated against rabies within the past three years. Participating owners must produce valid documentary proof for every dog they bring in, unless the dog must have been microchipped.
