The Sale of Donated Books Statistics

************************************

The Sale of Donated Books, which was held during this weekend (February 15 and 16), attracted a total of about 21,000 people with over 147,000 books sold. All books were sold at $5 each but the actual amount donated is to be confirmed by the Community Chest of Hong Kong.

Both the number of participants and books sold are more than double those of last year. About 10,000 people participated and 66,000 books sold with a donation of $330,000 to the Community Chest of Hong Kong last year.

The Book Donation & Sale Campaign, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Home Affairs Department, 18 District Councils, the Community Chest of Hong Kong, Hongkong Post and the Agency for Volunteer Service, was well received.

Over 200,000 books were collected for sale. In addition to selling the donated books, the organisers had arranged after the event for representatives of over 50 schools to select suitable unsold books for school library use. Other unsold books would be donated to various charitable and community service organisations.
