New Round of "Arts Corner" at Victoria Park open for application

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is inviting interested individuals or subvented non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to apply for operating "Arts Corner" at Victoria Park from tomorrow (February 12).

An LCSD spokesman said today (February 11), "The 'Arts Corner' at Victoria Park started in September last year for a trial period of six months. It is well received by both the stall operators and park-goers."

"The trial period will be ended on March 30 and the Department has decided to extend the operation of the 'Arts Corner' immediately afterwards."

"The new round of the 'Arts Corner' will be staged at the South Pavilion Plaza in Victoria Park. It will be opened to the public on Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 6 pm during the period of April 6 and September 28, 2003," the spokesman added.

Last year, the LCSD has set up the "Arts Corner" at Hong Kong Park in October whereas another two "Arts Fun Fairs" have been staged at Kowloon Park and Lai Chi Kok Park (Stage III) in December. A similar event, the "Arts and Crafts Square", has also been set up at Tsuen Wan Park since November.

There will be 24 stalls in the "Arts Corner" of Victoria Park for selling recreational, arts and cultural related souvenirs; as well as offering services of painting, photography, calligraphy or sketching.

Any interested individuals or subvented NGOs are welcome to apply for these stalls starting from tomorrow (February 12).

Applications will be considered by the "Arts Corner" Vetting Panel of the LCSD in accordance with the quality and/or variety of products/services provided.

The spokesman said, "If the total number of qualified applicants exceeds the quota after vetting, stalls will be allocated by drawing lots."

Each successful applicant is required to pay $100 registration fee.

Application forms for these stalls can be obtained at Victoria Park Management Office, Causeway Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong or Eastern District Leisure Services Office, 3/F, Quarry Bay Municipal Services Building, 38 Quarry Bay Street, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong.

All completed forms should be submitted together with copies of the proof of their professional knowledge in respective fields (if any) and samples of their past works or samples of products to Victoria Park Management Office, Causeway Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong on or before 5 pm of February 21.
