Talented Classical Guitarist David Russell Performed in Hong Kong

Considered as one of today's greatest performers of the classical guitar, David Russell will showcase his remarkable skills in a guitar recital to be staged on March 17 (Monday) at 8pm at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. Russell will perform music works by Sor, Granados, Bach and Tarrega as well as four Scottish pieces arranged by Russell himself.

Programme includes "Morceau de Concert Pour La Princesse Adelaide" by Sor; "Spanish Dance No. 5", "Spanish Dance No. 10", "La Maja de Goya" by Granados; "Chaconne" by Bach; "Danza Mora", "Gran Vals", "Three Mazurkas" and "Carnival of Venice" by Tarrega. Four Scottish pieces arranged by Russell are "Sanas Cuain (Message of the Sea)", "The Bride's Reel", "The Rose Bud of Allenvale" and "Miss Mary Walker of Peterhead".

Born in Scotland, David Russell moved to Spain during his childhood, where he was introduced to the guitar by his father. He has won nearly all the major international guitar competitions, including Jose Ramirez Guitar Competition, the Andres Segovia Competition and the Francisco Tarrega Competition. Upon hearing him, Andres Segovia wrote: "My congratulations on your musicality and guitaristic technique." Composers Guido Santorsola, Jorge Morel, Francis Kleynjans, Carlo Domeniconi and Sergio Assad have dedicated works to him. In recognition of his great talent and his international career, he was named a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London in 1997.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, tickets priced at $200, $140 and $80 for "Guitar Recital by David Russell" is are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-priced concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients available on a first-come-first-served basis). A 10% discount is also available for Friends of LCSD performing venues.

A masterclass by David Russell will be held on March 18 (Tuesday) at 8pm at the Recital Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.
