Splendid fireworks display to celebrate Lunar New Year
A splendid fireworks display will light up the sky of Victoria Harbour at 8 pm on February 2 (Sunday), the second day of Lunar New Year to celebrate the Year of the Goat.
The fireworks display is sponsored by the Four Seas Group and coordinated by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
The fireworks display 30,000 pieces of firing shells during 23-minute show from one large barge accompanied by eight pontoons, four on each side. It will be divided into eight scenes and the total sponsorship amount is four million.
On this year's special attraction, the fourth scene will be cheerful with patterns of "smiling faces" and "McMug's lovely noses" while the fifth scene will discharge the Chinese lucky number "8" in red color. The fireworks reach climax at the last scene with fast and rhythmic display of red lanterns, brocade crowns, peonies and salutes to create a stunning impact.
Chairman of the Four Seas Group Dr Stephen Tai Tak-fung said, "We are very glad to sponsor the Lunar New Year fireworks display again this year. As a corporate member of Hong Kong, we have always been supportive of matters of community interest, and we hope, through the fireworks display, to share the joyful celebration with citizens of Hong Kong, and wish all a prosperous year ahead."
Members of the public can view the spectacular display from the vantage points on both sides of the harbour such as the Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom. Due to the construction work at Tsimshatsui East, part of the Tsimshatsui East will be closed as restricted area.
Members of the public can listen to the synchronized music broadcast through RTHK Radio 4 to enjoy the audio and visual spectacular.
At the Golden Bauhinia Square outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsimshatsui, there will be synchronized music to enhance the enjoyment of the spectacular display.
The public is urged to help keep the public areas clean and care for public properties. As the Kowloon Public Pier and Queen's Public Pier will be very crowded, marine vessel operators are recommended to use other public piers.
