Winners of Best Landscape Award announced today

     Winners of the Best Landscape Award 2008 were announced today (October 29). With outstanding landscape design, Ma Wan Park – Nature Garden won the Grand Award of Excellence in private developments category while Deep Bay Link received the Grand Award of Excellence in public projects category.

     In addition to these two Grand Awards of Excellence, 16 Gold Awards and 24 Merit Awards were given at the prize presentation ceremony to commend organisations for their good efforts in greening, and to enhance green consciousness of public.

     The Best Landscape Award 2008 aims to sustain the betterment of living environment in private properties and promote excellence in greening of public projects through outstanding landscape design and horticultural maintenance.

     Launched in 2000, the Best Landscape Award is organised every two years. This year, 315 nominated entries were received. The response was overwhelming and the standard of the nominated entries was also very high.

     The nominated projects show that respective professionals, architects and landscape architects have added green elements to the properties in the planning and development stages of the projects. In addition to the appearance of green features, sustainability, enhancement to urban livability, and involvement of users have also been considered. Property management and maintenance professionals have also kept good care of the landscape to offer quality greening areas to the public.

     Officiating guests at the ceremony, which was held at the Hong Kong Central Library Exhibition Gallery, were the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Thomas Chow; Patron of Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), Sir David Akers-Jones; President of Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, Mr Leslie Chen; President of Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Mr Yu Kam-hung; Vice-President of Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Ms Elizabeth Chan; Vice Chairman of Professional Green Building Council, Mr Sam Cheng; and President of Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies, Mr Kendrew Leung.

     The Best Landscape Award 2008 is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and co-organised by the Home Affairs Department, the Buildings Department, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Professional Green Building Council, and the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies.

     The awards are presented in five categories. Three of them are for private developments and two for public projects. The awardees are as follows:

Private Developments:
(1) Large Scale Residential Property
