Italian violinist and ensemble to play Vivaldi's "Four Seasons"
Europa Galante, one of the foremost period-instrument ensembles in the world, will visit Hong Kong again with violinist Fabio Biondi for a concert in November.
The Italian ensemble will perform Vivaldi's masterpiece "Four Seasons", together with "Sinfonia in C" (from "La Senna Festeggiante") and "Concerto for Violin and Strings in A minor", and Purcell's suite in D minor from "Abdelazer, or che Moor's Revenge" at 8pm, on Sunday, November 9, at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.
Fabio Biondi began his career at the age of 12 performing his first solo concert with the RAI symphony orchestra. At 16 he was invited by the Musikverein of Vienna to perform Bach's violin concertos. Since then, the Palermo-born has performed with ensembles specialising in the performance of baroque music with original technique and instruments including Cappella Real, Musica Antiqua Wien, Seminario Musicale, La Chapelle Royale and Les Musiciens du Louvre (since its foundation).
Biondi is a violinist with a wide repertoire ranging from universal favourites to works of minor composers of the past three centuries. He perpetually seeks breakthrough in style, free from dogmatism and remains faith in his quest for the original music language.
Since its formation in 1990 by Fabio Biondi, Europa Galante has stunned audiences everywhere with its dynamism, brilliance and delicacy of nuance that typifies its performances. Playing in all major concert halls and festivals in the world's capital cities, Biondi and his ensemble enjoy a particular reputation for their performance of music of the Italian Baroque.
The ensemble has released its recordings of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and two volumes of Luigi Boccherini's string quintets as well as arias from cantatas by JS Bach with Ian Bostridge. It has been nominated twice for Grammy Awards - in 2004 for its disc of Vivaldi's Concerti con molti strumenti and in 2006 for its recording of Vivaldi's Bajazet.
