The Nan Lian Garden Music Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will feature "'When Petals Fall in Serenity...' Pipa Recital by Wong Chi-ching" in March. Well-known pipa performer Wong Chi-ching will perform various delightful pipa music pieces, and guest pipa performer Lam Tsan-tong will also perform at the matinee concert.
Following the theme of "Lilting notes that are born out of nature", Wong will perform with a tranquil heart and take a macro view of the myriad living things in the world. Wong will also take patrons on a musical journey through nature and simplicity that can allow audiences to shake off any dust that has gathered on them.
The programme of the matinee performance (2.30pm) includes "Dunhuang Dance", "High Mountains and Flowing Water", "Flowing Fancies", "Waves Washing the Sand", "When Petals Fall in Serenity...", "Autumn Moon in the Han Palace" and "King Chu Doffs His Armour". The programme of the evening performance (7.30pm) includes "Falling Flowers Colouring the Green", "Cantilena for One Finger", "Xulai", "A Thousand Sweeps", "The Moon Rises High", "Emergence" and "Ambuscade from All Sides".
Wong Chi-ching entered the China Broadcast Chinese Orchestra in 1976 and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in 1987. Currently she is the Section Leader of Plucked-strings and Pipa Principal of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. She founded Wuji Ensemble and Wuxing Virtuosi, and is also a keen supporter of contemporary music. She has performed in international music festivals and has also premiered new works in various dance programmes.
