Cantonese opera artists to perform Cantonese music masterpieces
**************************************************

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hong Kong City Hall and pay tribute to 20th century composers and arrangers of instrumental and vocal works in Cantonese music, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present three concerts titled "A Concert of Cantonese Music Masterpieces in Hundred Years" in March. This is a must-see opportunity for Cantonese music and opera fans to enjoy live performances of classic works.

In preparation for these concerts, musical scores have been retrieved from archives and rearranged for vocal performance by well known contemporary Cantonese opera artists. There will also be instrumental pieces to give a more comprehensive view of the genre over the past 100 years. The beautiful tunes selected may also bring back fond memories for many supporters of Hong Kong City Hall, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Renowned Cantonese opera virtuosi performing in the concerts include (in the listed order of their Chinese names) Wan Fei-yin, Ng Chin-fung, Yuen Siu-fai, Ng Mei-ying, Lee Lung, Nam Fung, Chan Wing-yee, Sun Kim-long, Koi Ming-fai, Lung Koon-tin and Chung Lai-yung. The vocal works include "Why Have You Not Returned", "An Emperor Travelling Incognito Flirted with a Commoner", "The Injustice Done to Dau Ngo", "Romance of the Lovers' Mirror", "Romance of the Phoenix Tower" and "Liu Jinding - Gao Junbao Secretly Visits the Barracks". Instrumental works include "Joyous Celebrations", "In Celebration of Good Times", "The Toll of the Temple Bell", "The Peacock Displays Its Beauty" and "Birds Returning to the Woods".
