HK Music Lover Chinese Orchestra to celebrate Chinese and Western wind instruments
The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will perform "Air Fair" - a musical gathering to celebrate Chinese and Western wind instruments in concert.
A lively programme will include "Watching the Rice Sprout Song", "Jubilation", Ng Cheuk-yin's works "Old Drama" and "Big Ben", and Debussy's "Première Rapsodie", among others. Conductor Wai Sing-fat will lead the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra during the concert. Also performing will be the clarinet and saxophone soloist Martin Choy and sheng soloist Ng Cheuk-yin.
The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra was established in 1979. Since then the orchestra has collaborated with an array of music virtuosi including Kwan Nai-chung, Wang Fujian, Xiao Biayong, Wong On-yuen, Chen Ruei-bin, Li Chuanyun and Wubulikasaimu. In 2004, the orchestra organised a fundraising charity concert titled "Yellow River Cantata". The orchestra also participated in concerts organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games. For the occasion of its 30th anniversary at the end of 2009, the orchestra invited friends from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Australia and Sichuan, China, to perform a concert in Hong Kong. The orchestra has made many recordings on cassette and CD, including the Gold Disc winner, "Fishermen's Song of the East Sea".
The concert "Air Fair" by Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will be staged at 8pm, on December 17 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $140, $110 and $80 are now available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by telephone credit card booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
