Tamar Park provides green open space in bustling city centre

Tamar Park, which has been created using the concept of "Land Always Green", opened for the public's enjoyment today (October 10). Much treasured in the bustling central business district, the green open space is a great place for citizens, particularly those working in the business district, to escape from the busy city life.

The 1.76-hectare park, managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), is part of the Tamar Development Project. It is adjacent to the Central Government Offices at Tamar and the Legislative Council Complex.

A spokesman for the LCSD said, "To tie in with the environmentally friendly design of the Tamar Development Project, Tamar Park features large green lawns. Visitors are free to stroll, sit and lie on these 'green carpets' to enjoy leisure at the green open space."

Tamar Park was designed with the concept of elegant simplicity. Visitors can appreciate the beautiful scenery of Victoria Harbour in a spacious environment. The park will also be linked up with the open space to be developed along the northern shore of Hong Kong Island.

An amphitheatre is another major facility at the park. It is open for booking by organisations for staging cultural and leisure activities as well as performances primarily. The amphitheatre has a seating capacity of about 240.

Other facilities in the park to be opened at a later stage upon completion of works include some water features as well as a café to be operated by a non-governmental organisation.

The spokesman reminded members of the public to help conserve the green resources of the 'green carpet' garden by keeping the lawns and other park areas clean and tidy.

Tamar Park is easily accessed by public transport. The public can go there by MTR (via Admiralty Station Exit A and just a few minutes' walk on the footbridge) as well as a number of bus routes. For details, please refer to the Transport Department's webpage at www.td.gov.hk/mini_site/tamar/content_eng.html. The webpage also shows the pedestrian routes and access for people with disabilities to Tamar.

For further information, please call the park management office by telephone at 2520 2530.
