Entries invited for flower show plant exhibits competition
The Hong Kong Flower Show 2011, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), will be held in Victoria Park for ten days from March 11 to 20. This year's flower show features "Symphony of Spring Flowers" as its main theme and Primula as the theme flower.
The flower show now invites members of the public to take part in its plant exhibits competition. Applications are free of charge and will be open until February 2.
The Hong Kong Flower Show is a major annual LCSD event to promote horticulture and the awareness of greening. Each year, it provides an opportunity for hundreds of thousands of local citizens and horticulture lovers from all over the world to appreciate the beauty of flowers and share their experiences in flower cultivation. The last show attracted more than 538,000 visitors and about 200 organisations from 21 countries.
The plant exhibits competition, comprising Open and School categories, is divided into 15 sections and 94 classes. The sections include orchids, Chinese cymbidiums, potted plants, cactuses and succulents, foliage and carnivorous plants, African violets, bonsai-type plants, Western style and Oriental manner floral arrangements, floral art by school children, primary and secondary school potted plants growing/nursing, and the school garden plots competition.
Section winners will receive trophies. Hong Kong Flower Show Cups will be awarded to the best exhibits in the Open and School categories. A prize presentation ceremony will be held during the show at Victoria Park.
