The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) presents Dance Day again today (December 18) at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Thousands of people are attracted to this fun-filled carnival to dance to the beat of all kinds of music.

Officiating at the opening ceremony are the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui; Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Mr Ma Fung-kwok; Vice Chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council, Mr Chung Wai-ping; and Deputy Director (Culture) of Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Mr Chung Ling-hoi.

To mark the opening of the event there is a marching parade involving more than 300 people, including secondary students and young dancers. The parade is followed by an opening show directed by renowned choreographers Daniel Yeung and Ong Yong-lock with 150 dancers. Led by young choreographers, Cyrus Hui, Chloe Wong and Max Lee of Biuguk, the young dancers give a live performance around the four corners of the plaza.

Start from noon, the event showcases various types of dance from modern to folk and jazz, tap dancing, Chinese dance, even environmental and multi-media dance. Members of public are welcome to register and join in the dance performances, including the “U Can Dance!” free dancing zone. Other attractions include dance workshops and game stalls.

Another of the many attractions is a multi-media show staged at the Exhibition Gallery. Seven renowned local dancers, Ong Yong-lock, Allen Lam, Pewan Chow, Victor Ma, Francis Leung, Popo Tso, and Daniel Yeung take turns performing crossover dance performances backed by multi-media projection and installations.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has invited renowned local dancer Daniel Yeung as Artistic Coordinator for the event. In addition to the dancers mentioned above, also participating at Dance Day are Unlock Dancing Plaza, Y-Space, Muse Motion, Folkdance Association of Hong Kong, School of Dance of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Hong Kong Dance Company, Association of Hong Kong Dance Organisations, DanceArt Hong Kong, Passoverdance, Rico Tsoi Dance Centre, Biuguk, Ban's Gig Drums, R&T (Rhythm & Tempo) and Cyrus Hui.
