Lantern carnival held at Tsing Yi Park tonight

     The lantern carnival held at Tsing Yi Park tonight (September 21) is the first of a series of lantern carnivals presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival. The carnival features entertainment programmes and lantern installations for the public to enjoy.

     Supported by the Office for Cultural Affairs with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Regions, Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, the Changbai Korean Nationality Autonomous County Song and Dance Ensemble of Jilin Province and the Hebei Acrobatics and Magical Group of China performed Chinese ethnic songs and dances and acrobatics on the main stage tonight. Other programmes included pop music and tap dance, Chinese instrumental music, an origami workshop, a make-a-wish corner, a lantern quiz and fortune-telling. Meanwhile, Tsing Yi Park is decorated with lanterns of flowers in various shapes, accompanied by live music performances, making it a glittering and colourful garden of lanterns and music.

     Lantern carnivals will also be held tomorrow (September 22) at Victoria Park and on September 23 at Tai Po Waterfront Park. The Changbai Korean Nationality Autonomous County Song and Dance Ensemble of Jilin Province and Hebei Acrobatics and Magical Group of China will also perform at the two carnivals. Details are as follows:

1. Urban Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival
   September 22 (Wednesday), 8pm-11pm
   Victoria Park
   Programme: Chinese ethnic songs and dances, acrobatics,
   fire dragon dancing parade, pop concert, Chinese traditional
   stage arts, Chinese instrumental music, film show, origami workshop,
   make-a-wish corner, lantern quiz, fortune-telling and lantern
   installations

2. New Territories East Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival
   September 23 (Thursday), 7.30pm-10.30pm
   Tai Po Waterfront Park
   Programme: Chinese ethnic songs and dances, acrobatics,
   Chinese instrumental music, a cappella and music theatre,
   site-specific dance, film show, origami workshop, make-a-wish corner,
   lantern quiz, fortune-telling and lantern installations

     Lantern installations at the three carnivals above are open to the public until September 23.

     There are also thematic lantern exhibitions: "The Rhapsody of Hong Kong Memories" is running at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza until October 17, and "All about the Moon" at West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade until September 24.

     "The Rhapsody of Hong Kong Memories" exhibition at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre depicts the daily lives of Hong Kong people since the 1960s. It is a collection of scenes of old Hong Kong, bringing back lots of cherished memories of those days. "All about the Moon" at West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade features stories about the moon in various countries, displaying how their rituals and traditions related to myths about the moon.

     An exhibition featuring the winning designs and all entries of the 2010 Mid-Autumn Lantern Design Competition is being held at the Exhibition Hall, 1/F, Low Block, Hong Kong City Hall, until September 25.

     People are urged not to litter and burn wax while celebrating the festival.
