Superstar flautist Sir James Galway to perform in October
****************************

The world-renowned superstar flautist Sir James Galway will perform in Hong Kong in October.

Sir James is one of the most recorded classical artists performing today, and has won numerous record awards including Record of the Year awards from "Billboard" and "Cash Box" magazines. He has shared the stage with an amazing array of entertainers including Stevie Wonder, Elton John, the Chieftains, Ray Charles, John Mitchell, Cleo Laine and Andrea Bocelli. His extensive touring, over 30 million albums sold and frequent international television appearances have endeared him to millions worldwide. As an instructor and humanitarian, he continues to be a tireless promoter of the arts.

Belfast born, Sir James studied in London and Paris before embarking on his orchestral career in such prestigious orchestras as the Sadlers Wells and Royal Covent Garden Operas, the BBC, Royal Philharmonic and London Symphonies, and taking up the coveted position of solo flautist with the Berlin Philharmonic under Herbert von Karajan. Since 1975, when Sir James launched his solo career, he has continuously performed with the world's leading orchestras and conductors, participated in chamber music engagements, popular music concerts and given master classes. He has played for many dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II and President George W. Bush. Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has honoured him twice: in 1979 with an Order of the British Empire and in 2001 with a Knighthood for services to music.

With pianist Phillip Moll and guest flautist Lady Jeanne Galway, Sir James will play a programme featuring Harty's "In Ireland", Debussy's "La fille aux cheveux de lin" and "En bateau", Tafanel's "Fantasie sur Mignon", "Irish Medley" by anonymous (arr. Overton), Briccialdi's "Carnival of Venice", Morlacchi's "Il Pastore Svizzero", Franz & Karl Doppler's "Rigoletto Fantasy for Two Flutes and Piano", and Borne's "Carmen Fantasy".
