The following was issued by the Development Bureau:

The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, and the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mrs Betty Fung, today (June 15) expressed great sorrow over the death of Mr Choi Kit-keung following the collapse of a tree in Yuen Chau Kok, Sha Tin. They offered their deepest condolences to the deceased's family.

Mrs Lam said that the Tree Management Office (TMO) of the Development Bureau would do their utmost to enhance tree risk assessment together with relevant Government departments so as to ensure public safety.

Mrs Fung said that staff from Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and other relevant departments would continue to be in contact with the family to render every possible assistance.

LCSD was working closely with TMO to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the tree collapse and consider the necessary follow-up actions, she added.

To enhance public safety, the department is inspecting all trees in the vicinity of the Yuen Chau Kok Park, including pedestrian paths and cycling tracks, and will take prompt remedial measures where necessary. The inspection is expected to be completed in three days' time.
