Yunnan troupe to perform Tibetan dance
The Song and Dance Troupe of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan will next month (January) give audiences a feast of Tibetan dance from the idyllic land of Shangri-la.
The distinctive troupe will perform a varied repertoire. Group dances "Reba Dance", "A Tune on the Ancient Road", "The Morning Song", "For the Love of the Ancient Tea-Horse Road", "Love dance of Nixi", "Achimugua" and "The Spirit of the Drums" represent the traditional culture of Shangri-la, while pas de deux "Divination of Love" depicts the love life of local people. There are also folk song performances "Song of Wall-building", "A Moonlit Night" and "Tibetan Guozhuang Tune", and music performance "Song of the Happy Lisu".
The Song and Dance Troupe of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan was founded in 1959. It is the only professional performing arts company in the autonomous region. "Diqing", which means "the land of good fortune" in Tibetan, is the only Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Yunnan. The troupe has built a huge repertoire of outstanding productions, including "The Call of Shangri-la", "A Paean to Kawagebo" and "Moonlit Night". Their outstanding performances earned many accolades from provincial and state departments including the Publicity Department and the Ministry of Culture of China. The troupe has toured globally, including to Germany, Austria, the United States, Mexico and Japan, in recent years and established itself as a fine ambassador of Diqing's Shangri-la culture on the international stage.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "The Call of Shangri-la - A Tibetan Dance Showcase" will be performed next year at 8pm on January 7 (Thursday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall; January 8 (Friday) at the Auditorium, Kwai Tsing Theatre, and on January 9 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall.
