LCSD heated swimming pools open in winter

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (October 30) that heated swimming facilities would be provided in 16 public swimming pools this winter.

     11 of the 16 pools will provide heated swimming facilities from November 1 (Sunday). They are: Morrison Hill Swimming Pool, Island East Swimming Pool, Lai Chi Kok Park Swimming Pool, Tai Kok Tsui Swimming Pool, Ho Man Tin Swimming Pool, Hammer Hill Road Swimming Pool, Shing Mun Valley Swimming Pool, Fanling Swimming Pool, Sha Tin Jockey Club Swimming Pool, Hin Tin Swimming Pool and Tseung Kwan O Swimming Pool.

     The other 5 pools will be closed during some periods in winter for annual maintenance or preparation for the holding of major sports events. Their opening dates are as follows:

     Swimming pools and opening periods:
     Wan Chai Swimming Pool
     November 1, 2009 to January 24, 2010, and March 6, 2010 onwards

     Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool 
     November 1 to December 31, 2009
            
     Kowloon Park Swimming Pool
     November 1 to 18, 2009, and December 21, 2009 onwards

     Tuen Mun Swimming Pool
     November 1, 2009 to January 17, 2010

     Yuen Long Swimming Pool
     November 26, 2009 onwards

     To tie in with pool usage patterns and meet the demand of morning swimmers and swimming groups for late afternoon and evening training sessions, the weekly cleansing operation of these 16 swimming pools will start from 10am and finish before the end of the second session as usual, so that the pool can be re-opened at the third session.

     The schedule of the weekly cleansing operation is as follows:

     Every Monday:
     Tai Kok Tsui Swimming Pool,
     Hammer Hill Road Swimming Pool,
     Shing Mun Valley Swimming Pool
     and Tseung Kwan O Swimming Pool

     Every Tuesday:
     Kowloon Park Swimming Pool and
     Fanling Swimming Pool

     Every Wednesday:
     Island East Swimming Pool,
     Lai Chi Kok Park Swimming Pool,
     Ho Man Tin Swimming Pool and
     Yuen Long Swimming Pool

     Every Thursday:
     Morrison Hill Swimming Pool,
     Tuen Mun Swimming Pool and
     Hin Tin Swimming Pool

     Every Friday:
     Wan Chai Swimming Pool,
     Sham Shui Po Park Swimming Pool
     and Sha Tin Jockey Club Swimming Pool

     Starting from November 1, three public swimming pools without heated swimming facilities, namely Victoria Park Swimming Pool, Kennedy Town Swimming Pool and Kowloon Tsai Swimming Pool, will open from 6.30am to noon daily until November 30.
