The following was issued by 2009 East Asian Games (Hong Kong) Ltd:

To celebrate the 200-day countdown of the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) as well as pay tribute to the volunteers and sponsors for their generous support to the Games, a wall imprinted with their handprints was unveiled at Kowloon Park today. The international version of the EAG theme song, "You are the Legend", has also made its debut on the same occasion.

"The Hong Kong Jockey Club 2009 East Asian Games Volunteer Programme Volunteers Handprint Wall" consists of over 1000 handprints with about 800 handprints contributed by volunteers and 30 handprints by sponsors, showcasing their dedicated efforts to the success of the Games.

Officiating at the handprint wall opening ceremony were the Chairman of the 5th EAG Planning Committee, the Hon. Timothy Fok, the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui Hiu-fai, the Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Mr T Brian Stevenson, and the Chairman of Agency for Volunteer Service, Mr Lee Jark Pui. The officiating guests, together with the representatives from nine EAG participating countries / regions, made the handprints at the ceremony to show their collective efforts and create a legacy for the Games.

"The wall and the hands pressed upon it are symbols of the common purpose – to stage the best Games – which unites us.  This in essence is what the event is really about: Everyone joining forces, taking civic pride and celebrating the Olympic spirit.  In this sense we are all Olympians," said Mr. Fok.

The international theme song, "You are the Legend", was also launched at the ceremony. It is composed by Mr Peter Kam with the lyrics by Mr Keith Chan and performed by well-known singers from EAG participating countries / regions including, Dadawa from China, Eason Chan from Hong Kong, Kousuke Atari from Japan, Chae Yeon from Korea and Richie Jen from Chinese Taipei.

Produced by RTHK, the song features four languages: English, Korean, Japanese and Mandarin, to show a close tie and solidarity among the EAG participating places. "You are the Legend" will be broadcast on various TV and radio stations from today onwards.

More than 30 local artistes also performed the Games theme song in Cantonese at the ceremony.
