"Splendid Sichuan" showcases award-winning dances

     A showcase of award-winning dances, "Splendid Sichuan", depicting the versatile facets of everyday life of the Tibetan, Qiang, Yi and Han ethnic groups of China will be performed by the Song and Dance Ensemble of Sichuan.

     The show is presented by the Leisure Cultural Services Department.

     The troupe, praised as "the pearl of Sichuan" and "a rare species in the artistic garden of Sichuan", will bring to Hong Kong a fascinating programme including "The Fiery Sichuan Girls" Han female group dance, "Qiang Drum Dance" Qiang male group dance, "Our Hadas" Tibetan vocal performance, and "A Girl Called Erma" Qiang female group dance.

     The Song and Dance Ensemble of Sichuan is a professional performing arts group known for its outstanding ethnic characteristics and high artistic standard in Sichuan. For more than 50 years, it has won many dance competitions including the "Five 'One' Project Award", the "Wenhua Grand Award" and the "Wenhua Award" for New Repertory presented by the Ministry of Culture; Silver and Gold Awards for Performance, which are two of the highest accolades in Chinese dance; the "Lotus Awards" and the "Taoli Cup" Awards. The choreographers and the dancers have also won various awards from the Ministry of Culture, such as the "Plum Blossom Award" and the "Wenhua Award" for Choreography, Original Music and Performance. The ensemble has toured many countries and regions.

     Tickets priced from $80 to $180 are now available from all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or over, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
