Festival-goers made wishes today (April 26) on the “Wishing Bun Tower”, which was erected at the Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch for the “Climbing Carnival” of the “2009 Bun Carnival”.

By making on-site applications for the bun tower climbing play-in of the "Climbing Carnival" jointly organised by the Hong Kong Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), people enjoyed the fun and excitement of climbing the 14-metre tall bun tower which will be used for the Bun Scrambling Competition on May 2.

Officiating at the opening ceremony of the "Climbing Carnival" were the Chairman of Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee, Mr Yung Chi-ming; Chief Leisure Manager (New Territories West) of the LCSD, Miss Sylvia Tang; Assistant District Officer (Islands District), Mr Sylvester Wong; the Director of Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee, Mr Chan Kam-hon; the President of Cheung Chau Wai Chiu County Association Limited, Mr Chan Man-kong; members of Islands District Council, Mr Kwong Kwok-wai and Ms Li Kwai-chun; Divisional Commander of the Hong Kong Police Force Cheung Chau Division, Mr Woo Chun-shan; Consultant of the Hong Kong Mountaineering Union, Mr Chung Kin-man and Director and Deputy General Manager of Lukfook Group, Mr Vincent Tse.

Five teams representing public services organisations competed in the invitation relay. The championship went to the team of Cathay Pacific Airways.

Participants of the “Climbing Carnival” also enjoyed the games stalls featuring the themes of climbing sport, East Asian Games and Chinese handicrafts, and the variety shows which were staged in the soccer pitch.

A total of 12 finalists selected yesterday (April 25) will enter the Bun Scrambling Competition to be held from 11.30pm on May 2 to 12.40am on May 3 at the Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch.
