Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra has played a central role in enriching the cultural lives of Korean citizens as well as people around the world for the past 71 years. Their performance was acclaimed to be “beautifully paced and deeply moving” by influential media. In this Festive Korea, principal guest conductor Thierry Fischer conducts Mahler’s Totenfeier and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5, and with the internationally acclaimed violinist Suyoen Kim and Andrew Ling, the principal viola from Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, to perform Bruch’s Double Concerto.

Having led the Utah Symphony, the Nagoya Philharmonic and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Thierry Fischer is most renowned for his creative programming, critically acclaimed performances and recordings. Award-winning violinist Suyoen Kim has performed with internationally acclaimed conductors such as Kurt Masur and Eliahu Inbal and appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras such as Deutsche Kammerphilharmonic Bremen and Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie. Andrew Ling is a native of Hong Kong and currently the principal viola of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also collaborated with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the China Film Philharmonic Orchestra, and has given recitals in Hong Kong, the North America and Europe. Representing Seoul, the cultural city of Korea, the concert by Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the celebration events of the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
