Considering the spatial and functional limitations of the existing foyer, the upgrading project reconstructed and expanded it to connect the previously disconnected facilities of the TPCC. In stark contrast with the solid and heavy original building, which was once part of a school, the new foyer adopts a simple rectilinear layout with an open and transparent design, which maintains an overall structural harmony without being over-dominant. The new foyer links the building with the Black Box Theatre in a style consistent with that of the existing structures, effectively creating a focal point for the TPCC as well as a comfortable waiting and social area which could significantly enhance visitors’ experience. To prevent congestion, the main staircase is strategically positioned away from the entrance, ticketing area and Black Box Theatre. The sizes of the staircase and lifts are proportionate to that of the building to ensure a spacious and accessible area for queuing, mingling and waiting.
