The exterior wall of the Black Box Theatre features perforated aluminium panels with trees as the theme pattern of the design. The trees are both echoes of the outdoor green space and a deliberate tribute to the lush greenery of Tai Po District. Representing greenery with stylised trees not only reinforces the cultural narrative and adds visual interest to the massive cladding of the theatre, but also creates a visual and thematic link between the architecture and the outdoor greenery. The orange-coloured signage adds a vibrant accent that complements the green space while reinforcing the cultural resonance of the overall concept. Perforated aluminium panels have been selected for their dual capacity to balance aesthetic expression and functional performance. The perforations enable a dynamic interplay of light and shadow with dappled sunlight filtering through the holes. Additionally, the material’s durability and adaptability to different environmental conditions meet the requirements of longevity and low maintenance.
