RULES OF COMPETITION


Introduction

The Hong Kong Flower Show 2026, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), was held at Victoria Park from 20 to 29 March 2026. As one of the major programmes of this territory-wide event, the “A Fragrant Journey through Hong Kong” Photo Competition was jointly presented by the organiser and the Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) for participation by the public.

Aim

The Competition aims to promote community greening with impressive photographs of flowers and plants on display, interesting or touching scenes captured at the showground, and portraits of TVB artistes and Miss Hong Kong titleholders with beautiful garden displays as a backdrop.

Entrants may enter more than one category in the Competition:

Category A:Portrait Photo Shooting Activity of TVB Artistes and Miss Hong Kong

The “Portrait Photo Shooting Activity” is given in this category. Details are as follows:

2)Date and Time
 The Portrait Photo Shooting Activity will start at 3:30 p.m. on 19 March 2026 (Thursday) at Victoria Park and last about an hour. No extra time will be given to participants who arrive late.

3)Enrolment Method
 (a)Participants may enrol in activities through My SmartPLAY App, the SmartPLAY webpage or Smart Self-Service Stations between 6 March 2026 and 18 March 2026 (starting from 8:30 a.m. on the first day).
(b)All participants including participants aged below 18, as well as the guardians or parents of participants, must register and complete authentication as SmartPLAY users and download My SmartPLAY App before enrolment. Please browse SmartPLAY webpage or you may see the video regarding "User Registration and authentication through iAM Smart".
(c)In case the activity currently applied for will be held at the date and time conflicting with another training course or recreation activity for which payment has been settled or confirmation has been made, such an application will be rejected as well. For your kind attention, please.
(d)Upon opening a SmartPLAY account, full-time students or persons with disabilities can register their eligibility for concessions in the “Personal Information” of the account. They must, before the first sessions of the programmes, visit the SmartPLAY service counters at leisure venues or District Leisure Service Offices, producing the originals of both identity documents and valid proof of eligibility for concessions, such as a valid student handbook/student card with photo, the “Registration Card for People with Disabilities” issued by the Labour and Welfare Bureau and the Notification of Successful Application for Disability Allowance issued by the Social Welfare Department. The information will be verified and entered into their personal accounts in the SmartPLAY system. Upon completion of the procedures, they can enjoy the concessionary rates within the valid period of the documents.
 (e)Participants must bring along the originals of their identity documents and the screenshot of the My SmartPLAY App indicating enrolment in the programmes/the confirmation notice/the receipt for verification by staff when attending the programme. When the identity of any participant is in doubt, the staff has the right to refuse that person entering the venue and attending the Portrait Photo Shooting Activity. The enrolment fee paid will not be refunded and no appeal will be accepted.
(f)Hong Kong residents must produce their HKID Cards, while children aged below 11 may produce their Hong Kong Birth Certificate/Document of Identity for Visa Purposes/HKSAR Re-entry Permit/ Permit for Proceeding to Hong Kong and Macao. Children aged 14 or below may produce a copy of their identity documents. The original of a student handbook/student card with photo must be produced if their identity documents do not bear a photograph.
 (g)LCSD reserves the right to request the following proof of eligibility for concessionary rate: 
Full-time students:Student card or student handbook with photo
Senior citizens aged 60 or above:HKID cards or Senior Citizen Card issued by the Social Welfare Department
Persons with disabilities:Registration Card for People with Disabilities issued by the Labour and Welfare Bureau or Notification of Successful Application for Disability Allowance issued by the Social Welfare Department, along with HKID card
 (h)Those fail to provide valid documentary proof(s) may be disqualified by the organiser.
 (i)Participants are reminded that the Portrait Photo Shooting Activity is arranged before the opening of the Flower Show. Participants may enter the zone designated for the Portrait Photo Shooting Activity at Victoria Park from the statue entrance at Causeway Road and they are only allowed to take photographs at the designated zone as shown in the below layout plan of Hong Kong Flower Show:

Category B: Flowers and Category C: Snapshots

Entrants are required to pay admission fees for entering the Showground during the Show period.

Submission of Entries and Closing Date

Entrants are required to enrol in the competition and upload their entries via electronic links from 9:00 a.m. on 20 March 2026 (Friday) to 21 April 2026 (Tuesday). The submission time is subject to the completion of both the uploading and the registration procedure. Late submission will not be entertained. Please ensure to receive acknowledgement email from e-form service for submission successfully.

Assessment

1)The main assessment criteria include an entry’s consistency with the theme, expression, layout, ambience, aesthetic appeal and photography skills.
2)The judging panel will comprise Mr CHOI ka-yin, Lewis, President of the Photographic Society of Hong Kong; Mr FUNG Hon-kee, Joseph, Programme Leader / Lecturer, Postgraduate Diploma in Photography, HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education; and Ms WONG Wo-bik, photography and media artist.
3)Adjudication will be held in June 2026. The results of the Competition will be announced on the Flower Show webpage at www.hkflowershow.hk in June 2026. Winners will be notified by email via the email addresses registered in the e-form submitted for collection of the prizes.

Exhibition of Winning

All winning entries will be uploaded onto the Flower Show webpage at the same time.

Photography Talk

A photography talk (in Cantonese) presented by the Photographic Society of Hong Kong will be held from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. on 29 March 2026 (Sunday) in the stage area of the showground. All visitors are welcome. Registration or reservation is not required and places will be allocated on a "first-come-first-served" basis.

Rules of Competition

1)The Competition is open to Hong Kong residents of all ages. However, employees of the organiser are prohibited to participate. Once discovered, the participant concerned will be disqualified.
2)Participants will enter this Competition as individual entrants, and can submit a maximum of 3 photographs for each Section. Each of the entries shall be of a minimum of 8 megapixels in resolution and in JPG/JPEG/PNG formats, with file sizes of between 1MB to 3MB. Those contravening the above may be disqualified by the organiser.
3)The Student Section is only open to those attending local full-time schools. The organiser will require participants to provide valid documentary proof(s) for verification. Those fail to provide valid documentary proof(s) may be disqualified by the organiser.
4)Entries of Category A must be photographs of TVB Artistes and Miss Hong Kong titleholders with garden displays in the background taken at the zone designated in Victoria Park on 19 March 2026 by the participants of the Portrait Photo Shooting Activity.
5)If any participants in Category A are found to be interfering with other participants or the models, or asking the models to make unsightly poses during the Activity, the organiser reserves the right to ask them to leave the designated zone and to disqualify them from taking part in the Competition.
6)Entries of Category B must be photographs of flowers including garden displays or floral art exhibits, etc. taken at the showground of the Hong Kong Flower Show 2026 during the show period.
7)Entries of Category C must be pictures of interesting features of the Hong Kong Flower Show 2026 taken during the show period.
8)All entries must be photographs taken by entrants with digital cameras or mobile phones, and must be original and unpublished works. Entrants shall ensure there is no infringement of interests (including copyrights) of other persons. The organiser shall not be liable for any claims arising from infringement of copyrights or rights of portrait in relation to any entries. All liability and consequences shall be borne by the entrants.
9)Entry photographs may be taken with special lenses. Photo cropping, red-eye removal and adjustments to brightness, contrast or colour saturation are also allowed, except photo post-editing by computers or mobile phones including change in colours. If the judging panel is of the view that an entry has been excessively processed, the entrant will be disqualified and no objection shall be raised.
10)The organiser reserves the right to use the entries by displaying / publishing the entries on the Internet, at venues of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, in publications of the organiser and through any media or publicity channel, for exhibition and promotion purposes, without paying any royalty or remuneration to the entrants.
11)No entry shall display the name, company, school, or other personal information of the entrant; signatures, borders and watermarks in the form of text, symbols or pictures which contain personal information are also prohibited.
12)There will be one first prize, one second prize, one third prize and prizes of “Highly Commended” for each category. However, these will be awarded at the discretion of the judging panel.
13)An entrant will not be awarded more than one prize among the first, second and third places in each category except the “Highly Commended”. An entrant will not be awarded more than a total of two prizes in each category.
14)Infringement of any rules and regulations governing the Competition will render the entrant liable to forfeiture of any title, prize or certificate.
15)The submission of entries to the organiser by entrants implies their consent to compliance with all the rules.
16)The organiser reserves the right to reject or disqualify any entries without giving any explanation. In case of disputes, the decision of the judging panel is final
17)If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or above, Red/Black Rainstorm Warning Signal, or “Extreme Conditions” is issued, or in force by the Hong Kong Observatory by 1:30 p.m. on 19 March 2026, the Portrait Photo Shooting Activity will be cancelled. If the weather deteriorates during the activity, the organiser may suspend it in view of the circumstances. Participants should pay attention to the announcements on the spot.
18)The organiser reserves the right to interpret the content of this prospectus and the rules. In case of any flaws in this prospectus, the organiser reserves the right to amend those in question without the need to notify in advance.
