Launching Ceremony for sportACT Summer Active Challenge cum 2007 Prize Presentation Ceremony of School Sports Programme

sportACT2007 The “Launching Ceremony for sportACT Summer Active Challenge cum 2007 Prize Presentation Ceremony of School Sports Programme”was successfully held by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at the Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre on 5 July 2007 (Thursday). Prizes for the “2007 Inter-school Easy Sport Competition”were presented to over 1000 students and 48 schools were awarded “sportACT Award Scheme –Active School Award”at the ceremony. The occasion also marked the launching of the “sportACT Summer Active Challenge”to be held during the summer holiday. Students were encouraged to plan their sports activities against the sportACT benchmarks and make playing sports one of their daily habits.

Outreach Coaching Training Programme Wushu Competition 2007

wushu2007 “Outreach Coaching Training Programme Wushu Competition 2007” was held on 27 May (Sunday) at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre. More than 400 students from 20 primary and 5 secondary schools participated to compete for Gold, Sliver and Bronze Group Awards. Events included Wubuquan, elementary Changquan style 1 levels 1 and 2 and elementary Nanquan. Students were also arranged to participate in a group performance at the opening ceremony. The competition provided opportunities for students to polish their skills and enhance the level of wushu in schools.

2007 Joint Schools Windsurfing Competition –Tai Mei Tuk

2007 Joint Schools Windsurfing Competition –Tai Mei Tuk2007 Joint Schools Windsurfing Competition (1st Leg) completed successfully on 29 April with the championship of each division went to the best performer. During the two-day keen competition, all of the participants had tried their best to finish the races with grace. The applaud of course went to the champions, but the courage and persistence demonstrated by other participants were also greatly admired.

On the competition day, we were honoured to have Mrs CHOY LAM Sau-ha, Chief Leisure Manger (Sports Development), to officiate the kick-off ceremony as well as awards presentation ceremony. She cheered on the participants before the competition began. When the air horn was held up high in the air, all of the participants were keen to strive for a favorable position at the start and everyone was perfectly ready like arrow on the bow. With the blow of the air horn, the windsurf boards were unleashed with full sails, taking our young athletes heading for their goal. The sea off Tai Mei Tuk was full of vigor and vitality as our athletes sailed on wholeheartedly towards their dreams.

The next leg will be held at Stanley Main Beach Water Sports Centre on 6 and 7 October.

"2007 Inter -school Easy Sport Competition"

2007Inter-schoolEasySport The 2007 Inter-school Easy Sport Competition was held on 28 April (Saturday) at Shek Kip Mei Park Grass Pitch and Sports Center including events of 13 sports - badminton, basketball, cricket, dragon dance, fencing, handball, netball, rugby football, shuttlecock, squash, table tennis, mini-tennis and mini-volleyball. The competition attracted more than 5,100 students from 300 primary schools to take part. Certificates of appointment were presented to 18 outstanding athletes as School Sports Ambassadors. They pledged to assist in promoting school sports in this year.

"School Indoor Rowing Challenge 2007"

School Indoor Rowing Challenge 2007516 students from 31 schools took part in the "School Sports Programme - School Indoor Rowing Challenge 2007", which was organised by Hong Kong, China Rowing Association, subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and co-organised by the Education and Manpower Bureau. After the preliminary competitions among four districts, namely Shatin South, Shatin North, Tsang Kwan O, Tai Po and North District, 360 students from 28 secondary schools got through to the finals held at Pok Oi Hospital Chan Kai Memorial College on 3 March. There were eight events in the final competition, namely Men's and Women's Open individual 1000m, Men's and Women's Groups A, B, C 4 x 500m Relay. The overall championship went to TWGH Mrs Fung Wong Fung Ting College, the overall first runner-up to KFWA Sun Fong Chung College, the overall second runner-up to Pok Oi Hospital Chan Kai Memorial College and the overall third runner-up to HKCWC Fung Yiu King Memorial Secondary School.

"Champions Challenge 2007 –Star Tennis Clinic"

Champions Challenge 2007 –Star Tennis ClinicThe Champions Challenge 2007, a spectacular annual tennis event, was staged at Victoria Park Tennis Stadium, Hong Kong, for 4 consecutive days from January 3 to 6. A "Star Tennis Clinic" was specially arranged on January 3 for over 500 students from 19 primary and secondary schools in the territory to participate so that they might have a chance to catch a glimpse of the world-class tennis stars. Students were enchanted as Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Zheng Jie and Yan Zi appeared on the court and they were greeted with thundering applause. Some students were allowed to play against these star players. Students on the spectator stands were equally excited and they cheered for their fellow students as if they were playing real matches. To encourage their little fans, tuitions on tennis skills were given by these super stars on the spot.

The one-hour "Star Tennis Clinic " was over quickly amid cheers and applause. All participating students thoroughly enjoyed themselves to the utmost.
